Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo breaks Nordschleife lap record

After setting a lap record at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) in the spring, Porsche tackled a legendary record this Friday, that of the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring (Germany) with the Porsche 919 Hybrid LM P1 in its Evo configuration. The objective has been achieved and much more: it only took 5'19''55 to cover the 20,600 km of L'Enfer Vert!

The numerous comments generated by the parade of the Porsche 919 Hybrid LM P1 in the company of its ancestor the Porsche 956 C on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (Germany) last May were therefore heard. Timo Bernhard achieved this feat on Friday shortly before 10 a.m., when the track grips best thanks to ambient temperatures and on the ground.

To fully understand the significance of this record, we must recall the previous mark, registered by Stefan Bellof in 1982 with a Porsche 956 during the Nürburgring 1 km tests. The German had completed a lap in 6'11''13. Timo Bernhard therefore drove 52 seconds faster over an almost equal distance (20,832 km).

This new record comes as part of the Porsche 919 Hybrid farewell tour. The proto, triple winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans (Sarthe) between 2015 and 2017, had won 17 victories in 34 races, 20 poles and 13 fastest laps in the World Championship.Endurance (WEC). The car will then go to the manufacturer's museum in Stuttgart (Germany).
