On the radio, it seemed like a benign problem. Kamui Kobayashi and his engineer noted a problem with the Toyota n°7 shortly after the halfway point for energy recovery. The calm conversation did not portend anything serious. Error. A few minutes later, the Japanese car returned to its box for a long stay. Disappointed, with his head down, Kobayashi got out of the car.
It remained immobilized for a long time, initially due to a turbo problem. Meanwhile, the sister car and then the Rebellion drove past. When it was time to leave, the Toyota found itself in fourth position, last in LMP1 with six laps behind.
A nightmare for this crew Kobayashi, Jose Maria Lopez and Mike conway who have never won Le Mans. We remember that in 2019, they released a promised victory in the last hour.
The No. 8 Toyota of Nakajima, Hartley and Buemi now leads the two Rebellions.
