The future of the WEC in 2014 takes shape

Representatives of the ACO and the FIA met on July 19 in Paris to discuss the future of the World Championship.Endurance including the finalization of the regulations for the 2014 season which plans to highlight hybrid technologies. Energy recovery systems will no longer be limited to braking and engines will be released with wider flanges offering variable air intake and unlimited fuel injection pressure. The objective will be a reduction in consumption of around 30% while maintaining the same level of performance. The organizers of the WEC want to offer the best test platform to manufacturers for their future models without forgetting the cost and safety issues which must be taken into account for the success of the project.

Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, who chairs the FIA Endurance Commission, seems delighted with the outcome of the meeting. “The meeting in Paris was very fruitful since we made progress on several major subjects such as the finalization of the 2014 LMP1 regulations which will allow endurance to position itself at the forefront in the development of new technologies that manufacturers will use to design the road cars of the future. Thanks to this meeting, the finalization of the regulations is well underway, which will allow teams and manufacturers to quickly start working on the design and manufacture of the cars. Who says new technologies, says cost control within the championship due to the very difficult economic climate. » Pierre Fillon, the President of the ACO, confirmed that the 2013 season was practically established. “The 2013 WEC calendar is almost complete and we will reveal it at the end of September, with some exciting new circuits on the programme. »
