LMP2, poor relation of the “Super Season”?

With the withdrawal of Audi and then Porsche, WEC found itself in difficulty for the year 2018 where Toyota found itself without any real competition.

If the private teams will supply the LMP1 category and will be able to try their luck in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the implementation of the Super Season spanning two years which allows the teams to compete in the Le Mans event twice has convinced those interested.

As we tell you in AUTO issue 2147hebdo, the WEC may be obliged to create a selection committee to limit the number of entries. The LMP1 category, reinvigorated by private teams, would feature nine cars, while the GTE Pro and Am would welcome 18 crews.

On the other hand, the LMP2s could lose visibility. While the category had around ten participants last year, it could only be represented by five crews this season.
