Le Mans – Alonso will start the 82nd edition

The ACO has announced the arrival of Fernando Alonso to start the 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Allan McNish will be the Grand Marshall of the event.

Le Mans – Alonso will start the 82nd edition

Fernando Alonso will be the luxury guest of the ACO to kick off the 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans June 14 at 15 p.m. The pilot of the Team Ferrari, double world champion F1 and victorious 32 times in Grand Prix. The Asturian will be in the front row to witness the opposing fight Porsche to Audi and Toyota where his former opponent Mark Webber will play. The Prancing Horse will be represented by AF Corse who will aim for victory in GTE Pro and GTE Am. “It is a great honor for the Automobile Club de l’Ouest that the immense champion, recently cited by Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo as the greatest driver in the world, has accepted this proposal”, declares the ACO in its press release.

Allan McNish, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998, 2008 and 2013 after 14 starts, will return to Sarthe next month to officiate as Grand Marshall of the event. The reigning world champion WEC who bowed out last year while playing with Audi will drive the leading car who will lead the peloton during the launch lap.

Finally, on the eve of the start, Doug Fehan will receive the Spirit of Le Mans trophy awarded by the ACO to personalities who have contributed to the development of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This American, passionate about the most famous endurance race in the world, is the director of the Corvette Racing Competition program, which has achieved seven GT successes since 2001.
