Le Mans – Alonso passes his turn for the 24 Hours

Fernando Alonso Asked 24 Hours of Le Mans ? Maybe, but not right away… The double world champion told the Spanish newspaper Trademarks that he would not participate in the 83rd edition of the Sarthe double clock tower. The name of the Asturian had however been mentioned for several months for this legendary event, particularly after the announcement of his replacement by Sebastian Vettel in Ferrari.

Si McLaren recently confirmed Fernando Alonso alongside Jenson Button, the Spaniard could still have hoped to achieve a double bill like Nico Hülkenberg. But the former world champion prefers to concentrate on his work at Woking. “I wouldn't feel comfortable not concentrating 100% at McLaren throughout the season. I'm sure I'll be able to handle both, but there's already a lot of work to do here. »

Fernando Alonso, however, confirmed that he was interested in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His presence in Sarthe last June to kick off the 82nd edition was already full of meaning. The McLaren driver could thus follow in the footsteps of Mark Webber when he retires in F1. “I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunities when I finish my F1 career but that's not possible this year. »
