Le Mans – Mixed fortunes for Porsche

If the Porsche 911 RSRs are at the forefront in GTE Am, it is quite different in GTE Pro where the first car from Stuttgart only occupies sixth with the No. 77 Felbermayr Proton driven by Marc Lieb.

Le Mans – Mixed fortunes for Porsche

If you feel like you want to take the Porsche 911 2012 RSR from Felbermayr Proton and Flying Lizard Motorsports were behind in practice, times were of little importance as the teams focused on set-up for the race. The Stuttgart cars were, however, expected for the first qualifying session held last night, but Marc Lieb failed to qualify the No. 77 of the German team in a better position than sixth place (in 3'57" 648) more than a second from the provisional pole of the No. 74 Corvette but above all behind the No. 911 79 of the Flying Lizard driven by Patrick Pilet who runs in GTE Am. The engineer-pilot of the Stuttgart manufacturer hopes to improve his time while enjoying a clear lap this evening. “The key to achieving a good result in qualifying at Le Mans is to have a lap without traffic, which I did not manage to achieve”, insists the German. “We want to be closer to the best (tonight). We could certainly gain several tenths by benefiting from a clear lap. »

On the other hand, Porsche stood out in GTE Am by taking the first two places in the category with the provisional pole of the No. 79 of Flying Lizard Motorsports (with a time of 3'57"594 achieved by Patrick Pilet) and second place for the #75 Prospeed Competition team thanks to a good time from Sean Edwards (3'58"035). Darren Law's replacement within the American team even managed to get ahead of the first Porsche in GTE Pro. “I didn't push too hard to achieve this time,” assures the Frenchman. “The car was competitive from the start and proved easy to drive. Grid positions are not important in a 24-hour race, but it is obviously an advantage to start at the front. »
