The information comes from our colleagues at Le Maine Libre. Invited by Stéphane Le Foll, Sarthe Minister of Agriculture and government spokesperson, François Hollande will be present on the Le Mans route on Saturday June 13, the start day of the 83rd edition of the Le Mans classic. The last time a serving President of the Republic made the trip was 43 years ago. It was Georges Pompidou, who gave the start in 1972.
In accordance with what we can read in the columns of the Sarthe daily, François Hollande will only be the third President of the Republic to come and stroll on the tarmac of this legendary circuit, the first being Vincent Auriol, in 1949, president of the Fourth Republic from 1947 to 1954.
As a reminder, it is William Clay known as “Bill” Ford Jr who will start at 15 p.m.
