The damage on theAston Martin occurred following an exit from the track by the Brazilian in the Bends Porsche, causing a red flag to end the first qualifying practice session, were too important to be repaired in time. The GTE Pro now only has eight cars in the category. Fortunately, the pilot only suffered from ankle pain.

“The impact with the rail took place at high speed and the most important thing is that Fernando is okay”, comments Richard Coleman, CEO of Craft-Bamboo Racing. “It's disappointing to have to retire but the car can't be repaired in time. Our mechanics worked tirelessly all night but it was impossible to restore the safety standards imposed for the race. We must now turn the page and focus on the second part of the WEC. We will not let this episode disrupt this very positive start to the season. »

Qualifying practice will resume this evening from 19 p.m. for two sessions, the last ending at midnight. The rest of the qualifications will be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Photos of the tests are available on this link.
