Le Mans: Pagenaud very ambitious

Simon, with the 908, are you hoping to aim for victory?
You have to know how to be reasonable at Le Mans. We can't leave wanting to win the race. This 2009 edition will be one of the highest in recent years. Our goal is to be in the Top 5. There are nine Diesel cars that can win, so we will wait for the tests to see where we are. Above all, you must know how to be humble and start this race with perspective.

You think you can compete with the official 908s of the team Peugeot ?
We are not there to compete with them, we are there to support the official team, to reinforce them. If there is then an opportunity due to racing, we will take it and we will do our job.

You have had a fairly exceptional start to the season. Do you hope that this race will be in the same vein?
2009 was a superb season, I won three of my five races, it?s fabulous. Continuing on the same line will be difficult. The slightest problem is multiplied by a hundred, so we can't say anything before the first hours of the race. I have very high hidden ambitions but a Top 5 would already be a good result.

Pescarolo has two very different cars (Peugeot 908 and Pescarolo-Judd), do you think you support each other, help each other anyway?
There is obviously moral support. As long as we can help ourselves by relaying track information to warn them, we will do it. When you have two cars in a team, you have to take advantage of it. Then extracting information about the settings will be difficult because the two cars are very different. But as long as we can help each other, we will.

Do you think you can fight with big companies like Audi or Peugeot?
The Pescarolo team showed what they could do before I arrived. I am very proud to work for this team. They have two great cars so I think it's a great weekend ahead for Pescarolo. And I assure you that this 2009 edition will go down in history.

A lot of supporters come to see you. Is it important for you to come and meet them, outside of the circuit?
Even if the weather is bad, the fans are there, in large numbers. There is interest from supporters. We are here thanks to them. So it’s important that there is feedback from us towards them. They give us a lot by supporting us. There would be no motorsport without them.
