Le Mans – Porsche confirms a 3rd 919 Hybrid

AUTOhebdo has been telling you about it for several issues, the news was confirmed by Porsche. The most victorious manufacturer in Sarthe will return on June 14 and 15 to the 24 Hours of Le Mans (Sarthe) with a 3rd 919 Hybrid to try in particular to put an end to the supremacy of Audi, but also to compete with Toyota and Nissan. The German brand has not yet made a decision regarding the drivers lined up for this car, knowing that the six who will be lined up this weekend at the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo have been renewed for 2015.

Porsche also confirmed that this 3rd LMP1-H would be entered in the 6 Hours of Spa (Belgium). “We were immediately competitive with the most complex and innovative Porsche ever produced”, commented Wolfgang Hatz, member of the Board of Management for Research and Development at Porsche AG. “We have achieved 5 podiums to date, 3 poles and 2 lap records in Shanghai (China) and Bahrain. These are unexpected results. But this program not only brings success on the circuits but also on the engineering side. »

“Our choice to contest the WEC in LMP1 was good », added Matthias Müller, CEO of Porsche AG. “We feel it every race. Our world-class sports program directly contributes to the development of the touring cars we produce. We couldn't ask for better than the WEC to develop and test future hybrid technologies, and this is even more true at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The same goes for the LMP1 team which involves more than 230 people. The human factor is not only essential for those behind the wheel, but for the entire project, and this perfectly reflects the Porsche philosophy. »
