Mexico on the 2016 calendar

The FIA and the ACO revealed on the sidelines of the Austin event in Texas which will begin in the evening, the 2016 calendar WEC. Nine events will be on the program for the World ChampionshipEndurance, with Mexico scheduled to finish as the ninth round, which should take place on September 4, 2016, with the contract still being finalized.

After the Prologue which will be contested on March 25 and 26 on the Var route of Paul Ricard, the inaugural round will take place in Great Britain at Silverstone on April 17 (coupled with the European Le Mans Series), before the traditional meeting at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on May 7.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans, the peak of the season, will be run on June 18 and 19, after the Test Day scheduled for June 5. The Nürburgring, which arrived this year in the WEC, will be renewed but brought forward during the month of July. “We have worked with the teams and circuits to reduce the long summer break that follows Le Mans, and this new calendar will allow the pace of racing to be maintained during the summer. » comments on this subject Gérard Neveu, Director General of the WEC.

After the great Mexican novelty, the end of the championship will be identical to 2015 with the rounds of Austin in Texas (September 17), Fuji (October 16), Shanghai (November 6) and Bahrain concluding on November 19.

“It is obvious that the 24 Hours of Le Mans remains a legendary race known to all and in which everyone dreams of participating, but the myth also extends to six-hour races and affects countries linked to endurance in the past, such as Mexico, specifies Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO. We are very proud to have maintained a stable level throughout these four years of the WEC.
