The 2 LM P2017 technical regulations still under discussion

The work currently being carried out by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, theIMSA and the FIA regarding the new technical regulations for the 2 LM P2017 category (see Ah n°2001) continue. The priority objectives of this future regulation are aimed primarily at continuing to reduce costs and allowing teams to enter LM P2s in the various championships. AsianLMS, ELMS, WEC (and the 24 Hours of Le Mans), but also USC, while respecting the specificities required by IMSA for the latter.

?We must keep in mind that LM P2 is not a category for major car manufacturers outside of North America, but is primarily intended for private teams and drivers, specifies Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO. We must therefore build a successful economic model for them but also for chassis manufacturers and engine manufacturers. Twenty-one engine manufacturers have already been consulted on the best cost reduction solution. And there was unanimity on the fact of retaining only?a single engine supplier. A decision recently announced by the World Motor Sport Council (last March in Geneva) and the call for tenders will be launched next summer. »

“We are also pursuing this logic of economy of scale for the electronic part (single equipment) and chassis (limited number of manufacturers) while taking care to maintain a variety of cars dear to our fans. » More details should be communicated at the ACO Press Conference during the week of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 13-14).

At the same time, IMSA confirmed certain specificities specific to the USC American Endurance Championship. In particular, several engine manufacturers will be admitted to the Prototype category and the bodies will be able to receive a limited number of design elements. The manufacturer's original bodywork will however be required for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
