The 24 hours of Le Mans are moving away for Peugeot

This is news that the ACO would have done without. While Porsche will abandon its LM P1 program in WEC at the end of the season a year after the withdrawal of Audi Sport and the future of Toyota in the World ChampionshipEndurance remains unclear, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest has confirmed that the possible return of Peugeot in the discipline would not happen in the near future.

The ACO reacted to a press release from Peugeot Sport published earlier today which indicated that the Sochaux manufacturer wanted to strengthen its involvement in World RX with Sébastien Loeb, without mentioning the prospect of future involvement in the WEC.

“The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has learned of Peugeot's decision to intensify its program in a series, other than endurance. We can only accept it and meet them in the years to come to prove to them the interest of our discipline, the merits of the shift taken by endurance, both in terms of costs and the technology used, that other manufacturers and other teams involved alongside us will then demonstrate to them”, indicates the ACO press release.

“We are continuing our roadmap, defined around a premier category accessible for budgets much lower than those of recent years which have become exponential, as was very often the case in the past with the presence of several manufacturers. We adapt to this natural cycle in endurance and react accordingly. More than ever, we are constructive, involved in the attractiveness of endurance, in a changing global context. » 

The WEC will carry out a Super Season next year spread over two years where the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be contested twice. The private LM P1s will benefit from performances close to the hybrid LM P1s.
