Current LM P2s will be able to race until June 2022

With the arrival of the Hypercar regulations in 2020, the performance of the leading cars in the World ChampionshipEndurance will be reduced compared to the current LM P1. Enough to constrain the regulatory body of WEC to also modify the performance of the LM P2 prototypes to maintain the current hierarchy on the track.

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest confirmed on the sidelines of the World Motor Sport Council in Cologne, Germany, that the LM P2s would thus be slowed down on elements that do not affect the homologation of the chassis, such as engine power.

In addition, current cars will be able to race in the WEC until June 2022, i.e. on the evening of 24 Hours of Le Mans, and until the end of the 2022 season for the other series, “due to the success of the category and to avoid additional costs. » as indicated by the ACO.

That is to say an extension of activity by one year compared to the initially planned schedule.

The World Council has also noted that the set of technical rules will govern Prototypes and Hypercars from 2020, each type of car receiving regulatory differentiations within specific sections of the said regulations.
