Level 5 in HPD ARX-01g from Silverstone

After shining in LMPC last year across the Atlantic, Level 5 Motorsports is competing this year in ALMS and ILMC in LMP2. But if Scott Tucker's troops have trusted Lola chassis since the start of the season, they will switch to HPD at Silvertone from September 9 to 11, thus already preparing for 2012. The car chosen is the latest ARX-01g, developed in collaboration with Wirth Research, and which should be very close to the ARX-01d that Strakka Racing and RML run in LMS. This new closed prototype respects in all respects the spirit of the “new” LMP2 regulations published by the ACO, particularly with regard to cost limitation.

“From our point of view, there is no doubt that the new Honda package responding to cost constraints will fight at the forefront in LMP2, underlines Scott Tucker. We have seen the engine progress throughout the year, and the positive is that there is still room for improvement when it comes to development. The HPD engine-chassis combination has proven to be the best in recent years. »

“We felt that the best opportunity for us to prepare for the remaining ILMC rounds this year and to already prepare for 2012 and the new LMP2 vision was to align this package, continues team manager David Stone. This change is not insignificant in the middle of the year for a team that had invested so much with one brand to move to another. But we are keeping our options open for the future and will see how things go, both in terms of car performance and championship regulations. »

After winning the 12 Hours of Sebring then finishing 3rd at Le Mans and at Imola, Level 5 Motorsports hopes to continue its harvest of podiums with the Honda chassis, starting at Silverstone. If only one car will be there in ILMC for the boss driver as well as the Frenchman Christophe Bouchut and the Portuguese Joao Barbosa, Scott Tucker hopes to field two at Petit Le Mans (which counts for the ILMC and the ALMS) as well as at Laguna Seca, closing round of the American Le Mans Series. Note that the pilots will go to the Wirth Research simulator in Great Britain to familiarize themselves with their new mount.
