Since 2018, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, the WEC and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit are promoting hydrogen technology, by organizing various activations on the Ardennes slide. Between the official presentation of the MissionH24 program, the inauguration of the TotalEnergies mobile hydrogen station or the demonstration of Hydrogen vehicles such as the LMPH2G or the Mission H24, several steps have been taken in recent years and have allowed spectators to discover the potential of this energy on which the ACO is banking for the future ofEndurance.
This year, hydrogen will once again be in the spotlight at Spa-Francorchamps. A hydrogen village will be set up in the fan zone for the public, with a 2 bar TotalEnergies mobile H700 station that will refuel prototypes, theAlpine Alpenglow and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris H2 Concept, before their demonstrations on the Walloon track. These two cars are expected to complete a few laps on Friday, May 9 (from 14:00 p.m. to 14:10 p.m.) and Saturday, May 10 (from 12:20 p.m. to 12:35 p.m.).
After these zero-CO2 emission laps, these machines will return to the village to be displayed for all to see. Fun activities will also allow fans to discover the production of hydrogen and its various uses with the DiscoverHy, a small racing car created with AdvancedH2Valley, a consortium to which the ACO belongs for the deployment of hydrogen in the West. The MissionH24 program will be represented by Bassel Aslan, its technical director, available for any questions about the new H24EVO.
A hydrogen forum, organized with Hydrogen Europe, will raise awareness among European high school and university teachers about this new energy, which is crucial for the energy transition. This race weekend, crucial for some before the 24 Hours of Le Mans, also proves important for the future of Endurance. A category dedicated to hydrogen is planned for 2028.
