Despite the Hyperpole hat trick, the Ferrari is "not the best in race pace"

According to Antonio Giovinazzi, the Ferrari isn't the fastest car in the race. It's hard to believe, considering the Italians' hat-trick at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps Hyperpole.

Despite the Hyperpole hat trick, the Ferrari is "not the best in race pace"

There will be red on the first places of the starting grid of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, and a little yellow, certainly, but it will be on the Ferrari AF Corse's 499P, qualified 2nd between the two official cars. The Italians scored a resounding hat-trick, which puts them in the best position for the last race before Le Mans, where Ferrari is the double title holder.

Despite everything, there is no question of speaking out for Antonio Giovinazzi, who will start third at the wheel of the No. 51. "No, we didn't expect Ferrari to take the top three places. We knew we had a good car for qualifying. But so far, looking at FP2 and FP3, we don't have the best car in terms of race pace. So we'll see on Saturday." tempers the former pilot of F1 byAlfa Romeo.

Last year, the Ferraris had a poor qualifying performance: the #83 finished 8th, while the #50 and #51 were 10th and 11th respectively. This did not prevent the factory cars from coming back to finish 3rd and 4th, behind the Porsche Jota's No. 12, victorious ahead of the No. 6 Porsche.

"It's a circuit where you can overtake. Some cars that start behind can overtake us.", explains Giovinazzi, who believes that the weather can play an important role. “We're starting from a good position, for sure, but it's not like Imola. Overtaking is difficult there. Here, you can stay in front if everything goes well, but especially with the medium tires, the degradation is quite high. On the other hand, the pit lap remains really complicated. We hope it will be warmer on Saturday, but it will be an intense race. In the end, we finish late, at 20 p.m., so the temperatures drop and the out lap becomes very difficult. I tested it on Thursday. It will be a long race no matter what. We probably don't have the fastest car in race pace. There are cars behind that are faster, and here we can overtake, so it will be an interesting race regardless. We're starting from a good position. We want to get the best possible result.”
