Martin and Alex Brundle at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

On April 24, Alex Brundle took part in the test day of 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of the Greaves Motorsport Zytek Z11SN-Nissan. The stated objective was clearly to be at the start of the 2012 edition of the Le Mans classic. Very quickly, rumors spread about the possible arrival of his father Martin as well. At the end of last week, Greaves Motorsport announced it would enter a Zytek-Nissan in WEC, another in LMS and two at Le Mans (see here). And the rumors started again. Today, it is confirmed, Martin (52 years old) and his son Alex (21 years old) will be associated at the wheel of a car entered by Tim Greaves in Sarthe on June 16 and 17.

“I can't wait to return to Le Mans, admits Martin Brundle. It's an unexpected pleasure, increased tenfold by the fact that I will share the wheel with my son. I'm already thinking about what a pleasure it will be to hand the car over to my son during the greatest race in the world. Win the category (LMP2, editor’s note) in front of all the fans is the goal. Martin Brundle, that’s 165 starts in F1, but above all seven participations at Le Mans, with a victory in 1990 on Jaguar, a pole in 1999 on Toyota, and a last participation which dates back to 2001 on Bentley.

Aged 21, Alex finished this season 8th in the Formula 2. He has previously made a few appearances in British F3 and Formula Palmer Audi. According to him, he could play the entire LMS season (see here). The Brundles are under pressure. This year, the Zytek-Nissan-Greaves trio triumphed in LMP2 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in LMS, taking three victories at Le Castellet, Imola and Silverstone.
