Matt Griffin, from ELMS to WEC

After having suffered last year in GTE Am last year in WEC within the AF Corse team and in the GTE category of theELMS with RAM Racing, Matt Griffin is launching a new challenge this year. Still with RAM Racing, he will rub shoulders with the GTE Pro references in the World Championship.Endurance. “Obviously, I'm really looking forward to this year, underlines the Irishman. We had a superb 2013 season in ELMS and we showed how professional the team is. RAM Racing is a very high level team now ready to move into the WEC. It's going to be very tough, but I'm 100% sure we'll be where we need to be at the start of the season. »

The one who won the ELMS championship title last year in the GTE category explains that the two championships remain very different. “It’s difficult to compare them. The competition and the stakes are higher because it's a World Championship. However, the ELMS is an excellent starting point for teams, especially newer ones like RAM was last year. »

The Irishman will be associated with the Portuguese Alvaro Parente in the Ferrari 458 Italia n°52 and the duo hopes to create a surprise. “It's fantastic to know that I'm going to have a great teammate, continues Matt Griffin. Being able to drive with someone of Alvaro's caliber will be a huge asset in this hyper-competitive GTE Pro category. I only know him a little, but he has a lot of experience in car which will be useful to him. I think what he brings to RAM, combined with my GT experience, will provide a solid foundation. Now we just need to show everyone what we can do and not just talk about it! »

The first round of the WEC will take place on April 20 on the English circuit of Silverstone.
