Matthieu Vaxivière recognizes his mistake

Highly visible during the qualifications of 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the best time of the first session, Matthieu Vaxiviere did not experience the expected race between last Saturday and Sunday in Sarthe. In question, a clash with the Ferrari 488 n°82 Risi Competizione then driven by Pierre Kaffer at the first Hunaudières chicane.

If the Oreca 07 n°28 of TDS Racing was able to continue its progress, the American team, second in GTE Pro in 2016, saw its hopes of shining disappear in the seventh hour of the race. Sanctioned with seven minutes of stop&go for the incident, the No. 07 Oreca 28 ultimately did not see the finish after Emmanuel Collard left the track.

Matthieu Vaxivière, who wanted to apologize to Pierre Kaffer on Sunday, renewed his approach on social networks yesterday. “I wanted to respond to the numerous posts that I have seen on the internet since the accident I caused at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and I must show humility and respect towards my motorsport family and the fans who follow me.

I would first like to renew all my apologies to Pierre Kaffer and the Team Risi Competizione, to whom I spoke personally on Sunday. I am aware of my fault, I sincerely thought I had passed Pierre well when I fell back on the Ferrari. This is a mistake that I humbly acknowledge and deeply regret, but everyone can be assured that I did not do it on purpose.

I underestimated my bearings and lacked judgment in interpreting the situation. My first concern, however, was the health of Pierre, who fortunately did not suffer any injury despite the brutal shock. I explained it to him and apologized sincerely, as well as to the Risi Competizione team. Now I will continue to work with my team to pursue my professional career. While accidents like this are disastrous, they still happen. My goal is of course not to repeat this type of error. »
