McLaren announces its return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027

This is the return of a renowned manufacturer to 24 Hours of Le Mans. After Aston Martin in 2025 and Genesis in 2026, that is McLaren which will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027. The British manufacturer announced in a press release its return to WEC in just over a year, without revealing any further information yet. Zak Brown, the CEO of Papayes, cracked a laconic "We are back."

Bruce McLaren won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Ford in 1966, but it was almost 30 years later that a car bearing his name would finally triumph at Le Mans. In 1995, McLaren entered his F1, a GT designed by Gordon Murray, which is chasing the most prestigious victory possible at Le Mans. From its first entry in 1995, the McLaren F1 made a big splash: of the seven examples present, three finished in the top five, including one in first place. Frenchman Yannick Dalmas, Finnish JJ Lehto and Japanese Masanori Sekiya crossed the line ahead of the Courage C34 of Bob Wollek, Mario Andretti and Eric Hélary. From its first participation, McLaren won, then continued to perform well for three years, without however managing to win again, before ceasing the participation of the F1 GTR at the end of 1998.

For its big comeback, McLaren will also tackle the legendary Triple Crown by attempting to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Indianapolis 500 and the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix in the same year: a feat never before achieved by a team. With Ford (2027) and Genesis (2026), the arrival of McLaren will bring to eleven the number of manufacturers present in La Sarthe with Ferrari, Toyota, Porsche, Alpine, Peugeot , Cadillac, BMW and Aston Martin. TheEndurance is going through its golden age!

The WEC has been really great since 2022, a championship that is experiencing its fast era, with the best manufacturers fighting together at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I didn't know that BMX bikes competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans... It's hard to pedal such a small bike for 24 hours!
