McLaren unveils the MCL-HY, its Hypercar for the 2027 WEC

McLaren officially announces its return to the pinnacle of endurance racing with the presentation of the MCL-HY, the future Hypercar to compete in the FIA ​​WEC from 2027, with a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a new assault on the Triple Crown in sight.

McLaren unveils the MCL-HY, its Hypercar for the 2027 WEC

Developed according to LMDh regulations, the MCL-HY is based on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis designed by Dallara and combines a twin-turbo V6 with an MGU hybrid system, for a total output of 520 kW (707 hp). With a minimum weight of 1,030 kg, the prototype aims for an optimal balance between pure performance and endurance efficiency.

The testing program will begin in May 2026, with homologation expected during the winter. Development will be led by Mikkel Jensen, supported by Grégoire Saucy, Richard Verschoor, and Ben Hanley. Saucy and Hanley distinguished themselves on Sunday by winning the European 4 Hours of Le Castellet. Le Mans Series with United Autosports.

Presented in a test livery inspired by the McLaren M6A and bearing the number 4, the MCL-HY is part of the brand's endurance heritage, notably marked by the victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans with the F1 GTR.

Alongside the competition program, McLaren is also launching the MCL-HY GTR, an ultra-exclusive track version intended for a select group of customers as part of the Project: EnduranceLacking a hybrid system, it is powered solely by the twin-turbo V6 developing approximately 730 hp, for a more direct driving experience.

Customers will benefit from an immersive two-year program, including six track events, full support with engineers and a dedicated team, as well as privileged access behind the scenes of the Hypercar program until the 2027 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The first deliveries of the MCL-HY GTR are expected at the end of 2027.
