The new Hypercar category of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) will only run on Michelin tires. The announcement was made by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) on Friday November 1st.
The Clermont-based manufacturer will equip future cars in the premier category of the WEC for three seasons starting in the 2020-21 financial year. “Michelin is an experienced and innovative technical partner of theEndurance, indicate Pierre Fillon, the President of the ACO.
He has demonstrated his qualities for many years in the WEC, and in particular in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in different categories, and will contribute to the influence of this new era of endurance. »
Michelin currently equips the LM P1, LM P2 and GTE. This contract constitutes more broadly an extension of the partnership initiated at the beginning of the WEC in 2012.
