Mike Conway: “A lot of emotion”

It was during a 2013 season spent reigning in the LM P2 category, within G-Drive Racing, that Mike conway caught the eye of headhunters Toyota. Reserve in 2014, but established instead of Nicolas lapierre, the Briton did not have an extremely clear start in the premier discipline of the World Championship.Endurance.

But over the months and years, the winner of the Macau Grand Prix F3 2006 gained confidence, to the point of becoming the sure value of the crew of the No. 7 and one of the two references of Toyota Gazoo Racing with Sébastien Buemi. A rise in power finally highlighted by a major title. Before leaving Bahrain, Mike indulged in a few confessions.

Mike, you are world champion. So, what does it do?

Speaking to you as a world champion, at the end of a season that was difficult in many ways but fantastic, gives me a lot of emotion. I think we – the No. 7 crew – had a perfect season throughout the year in question, and that's what makes it all the stronger.

What do you mean by a difficult season?

First of all, the season was long due to the Covid-19 pandemic since it was interrupted for several months (from February to August. Editor's note). On a sporting level, our crew of No. 7 can be proud of what they have achieved. We have sometimes suffered from bad luck, but being able to materialize our good performances here in Bahrain feels really good.

Even if the success handicap did not give equal chances of victory to the sister car in this final…

We knew that, in this race, we had a small advantage (0 "57 per lap officially. Editor's note), but we still had to do the work and make it happen...
