Mike Conway starts at Toyota in Austin

The British Mike conway, 30 years old, will make his racing debut in the premier category of the World Championship championship.Endurance during the next round, held at the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas, on September 20. Engaged since the beginning of the year by the Toyota Racing as test driver, he will replace the Japanese Kazuki Nakajima, retained at Autopolis for the fifth round of the Super Formula. Conway will therefore come to lend a hand in the seat of the No. 040 TS7 Hybrid to the Frenchman Stéphane Sarrazin and the Austrian Alexander Wurz.

“I’m really happy to have the chance to race in the TS040 at the Circuit of the Americas, said the main person concerned. The car is phenomenal, especially with the 1000 hp (cumulative power of the thermal V8 and the hybrid system. Editor’s note) and the four-wheel drive of the hybrid system. It should be a lot of fun racing at the front in Austin. I would like to thank the team for giving me this opportunity. We are fighting for the World Championship and I will do everything possible to contribute to it. I’m ready for this challenge and can’t wait to show what I can do. »

A situation which could be repeated in Bahrain on November 15, Kazuki Nakajima having to be in Motegi (Japan) where the Super GT final will be held. THE WEC, Conway knows since he shone last year in LM P2 within G-Drive Racing (behind which was hidden delta-ADR, winning no less than four victories at the wheel of an Oreca 03-Nissan.

As a reminder, the eclectic British driver is also aligned on road circuits in IndyCar within Ed Carpenter Racing (two victories this year in Long Beach and Toronto) and will be part of Dragon Racing in Formula E from September 13.
