Juan Pablo Montoya still dreams of winning the Triple Crown at 45 years old. For the moment, the places in the cars competing for the general are blocked. He hopes for an opportunity in LMDh in 2022 or 2023, why not with Acura, with whom he races in Dpi in IMSA.
In the meantime, the Colombian will honor his second participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, after a first appearance in 2018 at the wheel of the United Autosport Ligier in LMP2.
Less than two weeks before the race, he found a seat in LMP2 for 2020 within the DragonSpeed team which he will share with Timothé Buret and Memo Rojas.
Initially, the third man was to be Pipo Derani, who ultimately did not reach an agreement with DragonSpeed. The Brazilian felt that all the conditions were not met for him to be able to commit.
« The conditions were not completely right to be at Le Mans this year and in the end it was concluded that it was not the right plan for us to race together on this occasion. commented Pipo Derani. “ I hope to return to Le Mans in 2021, a race I have successfully competed in with a factory team in the past.” He took second place in GTE-Pro with Ford in 2017.
