Peugeot at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 2022?

In the PSA Motorsport press release announcing the arrival of Peugeot Sport in the premier category of the world championshipEndurance, we can read that “ the strong reduction in costs allowed by the new Hypercar regulations and the confirmation of the electrification of traction chains with hybrid technology led the PSA Group Executive Committee to approve the proposal for the participation of the Peugeot brand in this championship in 2022. »

But the WEC now taking place over two calendar years, that does not tell us when the little sister of the 908 will start racing, even if many have deduced that it would be at the start of the 2022-2023 financial year.

« We are announcing a date of 2022, but you will note that we have not specified a month, Jean-Marc Finot, director of PSA Motorsport, told us (see interview in AUTOhebdo n°2243, currently available). Our plan is to be ready in 2022. Afterwards, we have to see if it connects to the start of the season (therefore 2022-2023. Editor’s note) or if there are possibilities of arriving at another time. »

What if Peugeot arrived at the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans ? Today, there is nothing impossible about it. And even why not before, to prevent his new creation from starting with the most complicated test on the calendar.

Find everything you need to know about Peugeot's return to Endurance and an interview with Jean-Marc Finot this week in AUTOhebdo.
