Peugeot does not blame Bourdais

If the Sarthe driver was disappointed to have caused a pit stop depriving the crew of the Peugeot n°8 of a possible victory, the French team does not blame him.

Peugeot does not blame Bourdais

Two pit stops deprived Bourdais, Sarrazin and Montagny of a victory which seemed to extend their arms to 24 Hours of Le Mans. Bad luck for Sébastien Bourdais, he is the driver who was at the wheel during these two passages in the box. First of all, a stop following the breakage of the pins on the hub carrier of the left rear wheel caused the crew of the no. 908 8 HDi FAP to lose the lead in the race. Then, as he attacked to get back on the head, Bourdais hit the Porsche n°76, causing a second stoppage, permanently removing the French trio from the first step of the podium.

Despite this double waste of time, the management of Peugeot Sport does not hold any grudges against Manceau. The first trip to the pits was not his fault and would be due, in the first instance, to poor wheel attachment. The Frenchman is even credited for his ability to bring the 908 back into its box before the damage was more significant. The collision with the Porsche was then only the result of this first mechanical problem, while Bourdais tried everything for everything. Despite everything, the French team will push its checks to try to locate the precise origin of the first problem. And will not, in any case, shy away from his pleasure at having placed two 908s in the first two places.
