Peugeot presents the 908 Hybrid4

Already in 2008, Peugeot had presented a hybrid version of the 908 HDi FAP. This year, as soon as the prototype which will defend the colors of the factory in ILMC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, did the lion of Sochaux reveal the 908 Hybrid4 (Pictures). Confirmation of the brand?s offensive in 2011, focused on its environmental commitment.

This technology combines diesel and electric. The result presented to us is the fruit of the work of Peugeot Sport engineers, in collaboration with those of the group, who have never stopped development since Silverstone two years ago. The 908 Hybrid4 uses a system based on the principle of recovering the car?s kinetic energy during braking phases and restoring it during acceleration phases.

This available energy allows a significant improvement in engine efficiency, ensuring an increase in power of around 80 horsepower, available for a few seconds. Between two braking operations, the energy stored (around 500 kJ) in the Lithium Ion batteries is delivered to the rear automatically. No need, therefore, to use a “push to pass” command. The car can also run entirely electric, but this is only authorized in the pit lane.

Unlike its predecessor, the 908 Hybrid4 must measure itself against the benchmarks in the category. Indeed, depending on the smooth running of the preparation for the 24 Hours of the classic 908, as well as the success of the car's first laps, scheduled for the end of March, it will run on the great Le Mans circuit on April 24 at on the occasion of Test Day.
