Porsche confirms its commitment until 2018

Returned to the World ChampionshipEndurance last year with the 919 hybrid which quickly rose to the forefront of the LM P1 category, securing its first victory in Brazil at Interlagos at the end of 2014, before triumphing for the 17th time at Le Mans last June, the brand Porsche confirmed its commitment to WEC until the end of 2018.

“Motorsport is an important part of Porsche’s identity, but not an end in itself, explains Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Porsche AG. Racing helped the technology of future road-going sports cars.

It was the revolutionary regulations on fuel efficiency that convinced us to return to high-level motorsport for the 2014 season. The competition is bearing fruit and we are seeing synergy potential between future race car and road programs. That’s why we expanded the program. »

“In 2012 we started in Weissach, with a handful of people, a blank sheet of paper, high expectations and a strong dose of courage. I am very proud of this team of 230 employees and I am happy for each of them that from now on we can safely plan the next three WEC seasons and Le Mans." adds Fritz Enzinger, LMP1 Vice President.

Porsche will return to competition this weekend at home at Nürburgring in Germany, for the fourth round of the 2015 season. The 919 Hybrid will benefit from it a new aerodynamic package, on which the German firm relies heavily.
