Avec son kit aérodynamique à faible traînée, la Porsche 919 Hybrid n°1 a dominé les qualifications des 6 Heures de Spa face à Toyota. The trio Lotterer–Jani–Tandy will take the peloton tomorrow to Belgium after having achieved the best average over two laps in 1'54″097.
The Toyota TS050 Hybrid follows in the ranking with No. 7 of Kobayashi - Conway pointed at 0″596. No. 9 of Stone – Sarrazin – Kunimoto takes third place ahead of the n°8 of Buemi –Nakajima–Davidson.
Timo Bernhard – Earl Bamber – Brendon Hartley complete the top 5 of these qualifications with the second 919 Hybrid at 1″343. Note that the Toyota TS050 Hybrid n°9, equipped with the aerodynamic kit version Le Mans unlike the two other Japanese LM P1s, set the absolute best time in 1'53″658.
G-Drive ahead of Signatech Alpine
Already in high spirits in testing, the Oreca 07 n°26 G-Drive Racing, entrusted to the trio Rusinov – Thiriet – Lynn, once again dominated qualifying in Belgium, with a best average of 2'02″601.
The leading trio in the category is completed by the two Alpine A470 n°36 from Rao – Menezes – Dumas and n°35 from negrao – Ragues – Panciatici, pointed at 21 and 28 thousandths.
The CEFC Manor n°24 of Graves – Hirschi – Vergne fails at 31 thousandths. The team, on the other hand, saw its second LM P2 finish in the tire wall at the start of the session, after Vitaly Petrov went off the track, causing a red flag.
Ferrari dominates the GTE Pro
As in free practice 3 this morning, Ferrari dominated Ford in GTE Pro. The 488 n°71 from Rigon – Bird was the fastest with an average lap of 2’15″017, four tenths ahead of the first No. 66 Ford GT of Mücke – Pla – Johnson.
Harry Tincknell, Andy Priaulx and Pipo Derani (Ford GT no. 67) ranked third at 0 seconds, when the second Ferrari 548 AF Corse no. 488 of Pier Guidi – Calado finished more than seven tenths behind.
The Porsche clan climbs to third line in the category with the two 911 RSRs of Makowiecki – Lietz and Estre – Christensen, which concede respectively 1″845 and 1″993. Both Aston Martin Vantage, the only Dunlop road surfaces in GTE Pro, clock in at over two seconds.
In GTE Am, pole position went to the Aston Martin Vantage n°98 of Lamy – Dalla Lana – Lauda, with an average benchmark signed in the final moments in 2'18″659, four tenths ahead of the No. 911 Porsche 77 RSR from Dempsey-Proton Racing from Dienst – Ried – Cairoli.
Note that many times were canceled by race management due to non-compliance with track limits. The 6 Hours of Spa will start tomorrow at 14:30 p.m.
