Porsche optimizes its chances for the WEC and Le Mans

Porsche has not revealed the crews of the two 919 Hybrids entered in WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the Stuttgart manufacturer still had to announce one driver per car following the ACO press conference. Romain Dumas has been entered in the No. 14 while Timo Bernhard will drive the No. 20, the two former Audi teammates having won the Le Mans event in 2010. Brendon Hartley, Neel Jani, Marc Lieb and Mark Webber will join one of the two cars.

“It was an obvious choice to separate these two drivers on the two cars with their very significant experience at Le Mans and in endurance races”, said Andreas Seidl at the ACO press conference. “The confirmation of our commitment is another step marking our return to Le Mans. We are very much looking forward to meeting the competition for the first time during official testing at Paul Ricard at the end of March (March 28-29) and for the WEC season to start at Silverstone (April 20).

Porsche will also be represented at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE Pro category with two 911 RSRs after having already won in the category last year before distinguishing itself last month at the 24 Hours of Daytona by winning in the GTLM category. “In 2013, the 911 RSR proved that it was competitive in long events with our double at Le Mans”, adds Hartmut Kristen, Director of Porsche Motorsport. “We celebrated another victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona with the 911 RSR. It’s certainly a good sign for Le Mans 2014.”
