Porsche scores its double in Austin

Porsche celebrated a new double at the 6 Hours of COTA in Austin (Texas) despite honorable resistance from Toyota Gazoo Racing.

After taking the advantage in the second part of the event, the No. 919 1 Hybrid of Jani-Lotterer-Tandy ceded first place to the sister car of Bernhard-Bamber-Hartley eight minutes from the finish to to promote the title chances of the crew leading the Championship. The podium is completed by the TS050 Hybrid n°8 of Buemi-Sarrazin-Nakajima which finished 21 seconds behind the winners, the sister car of Conway-Kobayashi-Lopez taking fourth place.

Signatech-Alpine took his first victory of the season in LMP2 with the A470 entrusted to Stone-Menezes-negrao. THE'Alpine dominated the category despite a brief stop to change the rear part of the bodywork due to a faulty light. The Vaillante Rebellion completed the category podium, the No. 13 of Beche-Heinemeier Hansson-Piquet Jr ahead of the No. 31 of Canal-Cheers-Senna. The top five is completed by the two Oreca 07s from Jackie Chan DC Racing, the No. 38 of Tung-Jarvis-Laurent preceding the No. 37 of Cheng-Brundle-Gommendy.

AF Corse fought to achieve victory in GTE Pro. While Ferrari 488 GTE n°51 of Calado-Pier Guidi had built up a good lead, this was reduced to nothing following the intervention of a safety car and a puncture. The Italian car was nevertheless able to reach the finish five seconds ahead of the No. 911 Porsche 91 RSR of Christensen-Estre, the second AF Corse Ferrari completing the podium in the category ahead of the Aston Martin Vantage of Thiim-Sorensen and Turner-Adam-Serra. The British manufacturer received honors in GTE Am with the second success of the season for the #97 of Dalla Lana-Lamy-Lauda.
