The replacement for the current one Porsche 911 RSR, which allowed Richard Lietz to win the Drivers' title in WEC in GTE Pro last year, and for Patrick Pilet to take the Drivers' crown in IMSA, was finally revealed thanks to some images distilled by the firm this Thursday morning.

However, no technical details have been leaked from Porsche, but like AUTOhebdo mentioned regularly since last February, the new 911 RSR 2017 could well constitute a small revolution with the presence of an engine placed in a central rear position, thus replacing the traditional rear overhang architecture.

Porsche's future weapon made its first laps in Weissach, with most of the GT drivers. “It's quite rare to put several drivers behind the wheel during the first laps, underlines Marco Ujhasi, general director of the GT project. But since all our factory drivers are involved in the development of the new car, those who were able to be present came to Weissach and did a few laps. »

The Porsche 911 RSR is scheduled to make its debut on the other side of the Atlantic in 2017, at the 24 Hours of Daytona in Florida in January as part of the IMSA championships. It will also be in action in the WEC next year. “The racing debut of a brand new vehicle in a 24-hour event is a big challenge. But we are on time. » concludes Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, boss of Porsche Motorsport.
