The Toyotas retained the lead in the Prologue even though the privateer LMP1s finished in the same second as the benchmark.

Prologue – Toyotas keep a short lead

The Toyota remained in control at the end of the last session of the Prologue of WEC contested on the Catalunya circuit. It was José Maria Lopez who set the benchmark in 1'29''141, 4 hundredths ahead of the sister car entrusted to Kazuki Nakajima.

The private LMP1s remained in the game as Gustavo Menezes brought the first Rebellion to within 2 tenths of the best time. Luca Ghiotto placed the first Ginetta half a second behind.

Nyck de Vries set the benchmark for the LMP2 category with a time of 1'31''659 achieved in the Oreca 07 of Racing Team Nederland. Paul di Resta followed by half a tenth in the #22 United Autosports car, while André Négrao completed the top three on theAlpine A470 2 tenths behind. The Dallara P217 of Cetilar Villorba Corse finished further back, more than 2 seconds behind.

Miguel Molina maintained his best time of the morning on the Ferrari n°71 of AF Corse in front of the Porsche n°92 by Kévin Estre. Team Project 1 kept the best time in GTE Am with the Porsche of Matteo Cairoli, but Thomas Preining followed by half a tenth in the Dempsey Proton Racing mount.

Only 14 cars out of the 30 entered took part in the final session of the Prologue.
