Rebellion Racing on pole for the 4 Hours of Shanghai

Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Shanghai produced an unprecedented result, with the first pole position for a private team in the WEC, in this case Rebellion Racing.

Rebellion Racing on pole for the 4 Hours of Shanghai

Although it sparks many debates, the success handicap has fully played its role, even if we expected more significant differences. And for good reason, Rebellion Racing took pole position at the 4 Hours of Shanghai, the first in its history in WEC.

Author with an average time of 1’45”892, the R13 n°1 of Bruno Senna and Gustavo Menezes – who make common cause with Norman Nato – stuck 1”2 to the Ginetta n°6 of Simpson-Smith-Robertson and 1”245 to the second G60 LT P1-AER , entrusted to Hanley-Orudzhev-King. Respectivement 4e et 5e, les Toyota TS050 Hybrid n°7 et n°8 sont à 1 »343 et 2 »288.

In LM P2, the pair Nicolas lapierre-Antonin Borga, credited with a 1’48”649 at the wheel of their #07 Oreca 42, offers pole position to Cool Racing. Followed by Jackie Chan DC Racing (Aubry-Stevens-Tung) and United Autosports (Hanson-Di Resta-Albuquerque). Signatech Alpine is only seventh, just ahead of Racing Team Nederland, championship leader.

Porsche dominates in GTE

Porsche scored a double blow in GTE, whether in Pro or Am. The #911 91 RSR of Michael Christensen-Kévin Estre took pole position in GTE Pro thanks to an average time of 1'59"579.

The outgoing world champions were ahead of the two by 0”018 and 0”028 respectively. Aston Martin Vantage AMR, the #95 of Marco Sorensen-Nicki Thiim ahead of the #97 of Maxime Martin-Alex Lynn.

The two follow Ferrari 488 GTE from AF Corse. The n°51 of James Calado-Alessandro Pier Guidi concedes 0”108 to the reference mark, against 0”488 to the n°71 of Miguel Molina-Davide Rigon. The three manufacturers registered in the category are therefore grouped into a tenth.

Team Project 1 completed Porsche's triumph thanks to Egidio Perfetti and Matteo Cairoli, who were the fastest in GTE Am in 2'00"031. The top three is completed by the No. 98 Aston Martin Vantage AMR of Dalla Lana-Turner-Gunn and the No. 911 Porsche 77 RSR of Ried-Campbell-Pera.

Handicapped by 40 kg of ballast, the No. 488 Ferrari 83 GTE of Collard-Nielsen-Perrodo was unable to join the fight at the front and was relegated to a second.

The start of the 4 Hours of Shanghai will be given tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. French time.
