Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Oreca chosen to supply the common hydrogen chassis

The hydrogen category of 24 Hours of Le Mans takes an important turning point on Monday, January 25. We knew the supplier of the electric-hydrogen powertrain for the series debut in 2024, GreenGT, but not the chassis.

All competitors will benefit from a chassis resulting from a collaboration between Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Oreca. The two companies won a consultation led by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) to develop its “Mission H24” project.

“On behalf of the Oreca Group, I would like to thank the ACO for the trust placed in our teams to carry out this innovative project,” explains Hugues de Chaunac, President of Oreca. This new mission offers us the opportunity to open a sporting and technical chapter, as exciting as it is unprecedented.

As in Endurance where teamwork is one of the key elements of success, we will be able to optimize our collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, Plastic Omnium and GreenGT in order to contribute to the development and success of a zero-emission competition. »

Red Bull Advanced Technologies had previously worked in IndyCar to build the Aeroscreen in 2019. “Red Bull Advanced Technologies has the scale needed to achieve the objective set by the ACO, says Christian Horner, its CEO, having the tools and experience of designing and developing the Formula 1 from Red Bull Racing as well as other high-end vehicles. The hydrogen category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans offers a great overview of the sustainable development of motor sports and promises not only to advance the use of hydrogen in transport but also the prospect of an exciting competition. »

Finally, for Pierre Fillon, the President of the ACO, “this announcement of unprecedented scale, today, underlines theappeal of MissionH24 and zero-emission competition through hydrogen prototypes. With Oreca, a legendary player in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, a company successfully involved in motorsport, the ACO thus brings together the best of endurance and technology to guarantee performance at the highest level for its hydrogen category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024. This collaboration demonstrates the attractiveness of the decisions taken by the ACO for the future of motor racing, and underlines our ambition in terms of decarbonized motorsport for future generations. Welcome to them.

They join Plastic Omnium, the producer of tanks in this hydrogen category. The presence of these leading companies in the automotive and mobility world can only further arouse the interest of manufacturers, particularly those already regularly present during our working group devoted to hydrogen. In this delicate period, the ACO is determinedly pursuing its road plan, towards carbon-free competition and mobility.”
