- For his reunion with Brazil, ten years after his last visit, the WEC had an eventful first Free Practice session at Interlagos. Under an overcast sky and a still wet track, the 37 cars lapped the Paulista asphalt... for only 45 minutes.
- Midway through the session, the session was interrupted by a red flag following the accident of Arnold Robin's #78 Lexus at turn 4. The Frenchman is fine and conscious but suffering from some pain, he was sent to the medical center for tests. After long minutes of waiting, the stewards decided to end FP1 prematurely, the delay to repair the barriers being too long to restart the session before the end of the allotted time. In return, Free Practice 2 will be extended by 45 minutes.
- At the end of a session reduced by half, it is Peugeot n°93 of the Müller – Vergne – Jensen trio who set the best time in 1'26″341 with slick tires, ahead of the n°2 Cadillac and the Porsche No. 6. Obviously, the interruption of the session after only 45 minutes deprives us of a clear reading of the hierarchy. Several crews did not have time to set a significant time with slick tires and were relegated several seconds behind the benchmark.
- In the LMGT3, it’s the McLaren n°59 driven by local hero, Nicolas Costa, who finished the session in the lead with a time of 1'35″881, ahead of both Aston Martin with the Heart of Racing n°27 ahead of the D'station Racing n°777.
