Spa extends with WEC for four years

Theater of a Dantesque race this year, with snow as a surprise guest, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit will remain on the World Championship calendarEndurance for the next four years as confirmed by the WEC this Thursday.

A pillar round of the discipline since the revival of the championship in 2012, the six-hour event serves as a traditional dress rehearsal before the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Spa will be the seventh event of the 2019-2020 campaign which will begin on September 1 at Silverstone in Great Britain.

Note that the test will however be brought forward by one week and will take place on April 25, instead of the usual date at the beginning of May., which will avoid a clash with the Formula E in Seoul. “It is with great pride that we are today finalizing the four-year renewal of the contract which ensures the presence on the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit of the World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series, comments Nathalie Maillet, boss of the Ardennes piste.

I am delighted with this extension which demonstrates the excellent collaboration between the ACO and Le Mans Endurance Management, organizer of these two key events on our calendar.

I would also like to thank the management of these organizations for their confidence in the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. This long-term agreement will allow us to develop these two championships together on the basis of a solid, lasting and fruitful relationship. »
