The postponement of the 1812km Qatar rally delayed Genesis' official competitive debut by a few weeks. WECBut this time, it's really getting close! The GMR-001 Hypercars, now sporting their final livery, will head to Imola for the Prologue, followed by the first race weekend, from April 17th to 19th. In Emilia-Romagna, everything will be new for the manufacturer within the group. Hyundai, the WEC format, the operation of the car on this track, and the collaboration during a race weekend between the three drivers of each crew.
The project's first two drivers, André Lotterer and Pipo Derani, will be paired in car #17. This was a choice Genesis hadn't anticipated, having initially assumed upon the drivers' arrival that they would each serve as "road captains" for their respective cars. Ultimately, the quality of their collaboration during the GMR-001 Hypercar tests convinced the team. Cyril Abiteboul to line them up together, with the young Frenchman Mathys Jaubert. In the other machine, we will find Paul-Loup Chatin, Mathieu Jaminet and Dani Juncadella.
“We focused on the aspects we can control. From the engineering side, it’s the reliability and performance of the car, from the team manager’s side, it’s the different processes to implement, and from my side, it’s the crews of the two cars,” said Gabriele Tarquini, the team’s sporting director. “Each of our drivers brings something different, and that’s exactly what makes a crew of…”Endurance of quality.
The six Genesis drivers, to which should be added Jamie Chadwick in his role as reserve driver, constitute a mix of experience, led by André Lotterer, multiple winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mansand young talents like Mathys Jaubert, who is only 21 years old. Finding the right balance between different personalities is not easy, and if teams like Classic Ferrari for sale were able to hit the jackpot in the first year (the crews of No. 50 and No. 51 have indeed remained unchanged since 2023), others sometimes make adjustments.
“We have drivers whose vast experience in Hypercars has greatly helped us in the car's development, and we have others who bring with them the enthusiasm of rookies, and who will help us overcome the difficulties we will undoubtedly encounter in our first season. Beyond individual strengths, what matters is how well everyone can work together. Endurance racing is about trust, communication, and shared responsibility to achieve results.”
