TMG renamed Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe

It’s a historic name that’s disappearing. Since 1993, as a continuation of Andersson Motorsport (launched in 1979 and also known as Toyota Team Europe, during the first world titles in WRC in the early 90s with Carlos Sainz), the Toyota Motorsport GmbH has participated in various competition programs, whether in Endurance (GT-One, TS050 Hybrid), or rally (Celica, Corolla, engine part of the current Yaris).

This Monday, Toyota confirmed that TMG, which employs more than 300 people, would change its name to Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe (TGR-E). Enough to unify the different names within the Japanese manufacturer, but also to reaffirm its links with the Gazoo Racing Company department, in charge of the development of GR road models.

“Going forward, TGR-E will continue to serve as the hub for Toyota's motorsport activities in Europe, working with Gazoo Racing Company from its base in Cologne, Germany, and will engage in activities such as supply of engines for cars participating in the World Endurance Championship WEC and the WRC World Rally Championship, and will contribute to the development of the GR Supra GT4. » says the press release.

“The ultimate goal of participation in motorsport, which is a battle of cars produced by manufacturers, is to win, recalls the president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda.

This is why TGR Europe must be a team of professionals who produce winning creations. To continue to win, we must do kaizen (continuous improvement) and continually improve things, regardless of the circumstances. Our team will continue to build better and better cars here in Cologne, Germany, to win. »
