Toyota confirms its long-term commitment to the GR Super Sport

The ACO press conference this morning on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Le Mans had confirmed the presence of the two TS050 Hybrid for the next season of the World ChampionshipEndurance, and Toyota took advantage of its own conference this Friday to announce the continuation of its commitment in 2020.

The Toyota program will necessarily go through the premier category, designed around the “Hypercars” regulations. To answer this, Toyota will use the GR Super Sport hybrid concept platform, previously revealed.

The development of both versions, road and competition, continues in Japan and Germany in order to be ready for the start of the 2020 campaign.

“Thank you to the ACO and the FIA for their hard work in developing these regulations, which we hope will usher in a new golden age of endurance racing, with several manufacturers fighting for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Championship, says Shigeki Tomoyama, president of Gazoo Racing.

For Toyota, this new era is a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate our credibility not only as a racing team against some of the best in the business, but also as a sports car manufacturer. »

Testing of the future car, whose name has not yet been revealed, will begin next year.
