Toyota and Ford dominate qualifying at Spa

It comes as no surprise that Both Toyota TS050 Hybrid s’élanceront en première ligne des 6 Heures de Spa tomorrow in Belgium, at the end of qualifying barely disturbed by a few drops of rain.

The TS050 Hybrid n°7, entrusted for this session to Mike conway et Kamui Kobayashi was ahead of the average time of the two drivers (1’53″747 against 1’54″243, or almost half a second) the sister car no. 8, led by Kazuki Nakajima et Sébastien Buemi,

Conway set the absolute best lap of the session in 1'53″683, thus coming very close (0″025) to the absolute LM P1 record at the Spa circuit, set in 2017 by Stéphane Sarrazin with the TS050 Hybrid, in 1’53″658.

Egor Orudzhev – Stéphane Sarrazin – Sergey Sirotkin (BR1 n°17 – SMP Racing) will start on the second row tomorrow, after a session where Orudzhev stood out with the best absolute second partial, taking advantage of the strong support kit from the prototype flying the Russian flag.

Followed by the first Rebellion R13 n°3 – Rebellion Racing of Laurent – Berthon – Menezes in front of the second BR1 n°11 – SMP Racing of Vandoorne – Aleshin – Petrov. The Lotterer – Jani – Senna trio finished 6th with the #13 R1.

Less success for Tom Dillmann, lined up in the ENSO CLM P1/01 n°4 – ByKolles Racing, who was forced to stop in the pit straight a little less than 5′ from the end of qualifying, causing the only red flag of the afternoon.

In LM P2, the No. 01 Aurus 26 – G-Drive Racing de Vergne – van Uitert set the best average in 2'00″674, the Frenchman setting the absolute best time in the category in 2'00″ 003. The two Oreca 07 n°38 and n°37 – Jackie Chan DC Racing follow in the ranking ahead of the Oreca 07 n°31 – DragonSpeed and theAlpine A470 n°36 – Signatech Alpine.

Ford comes to style Aston Martin and BMW

In GTE Pro, Ford waited until the very last seconds for Aston Martin to obtain pole. Andy Priaulx set a final time of 2'12"973 to ensure an average time of 67'2"12 for the No. 885, enough to beat the No. 97 Vantage of Maxime Martin and Alex Lynn by 67 thousandths.

Long at the top of the timesheet, thanks to Antonio Felix da Costa author of the absolute best time in 2'12"671, BMW monopolizes the second row of the category with the n°82 of the Portuguese and his teammate Augusto Farfus, and No. 81 from Tomczyk – Catsburg.

Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim (Aston Martin Vantage no. 95) finished 5th ahead of the second Ford GT no. 66 of Olivier Pla and Stefan Mücke.

Worse for the clan Ferrari, since the 488 GTE n°51 of Bird – Rigon and n°71 of Calado – Pier Guidi emerge beyond the 1″.

Aston Martin and TF Sport, with the #90 Vantage of Yoluc – Alers-Hankey – Eastwood, will start from pole in GTE Am ahead of the #911 – Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 88 RSR of Roda – Roda – Cairoli.

Note that Motoaki Ishikawa (Ferrari 488 GTE n°70 – MR Racing) made a mistake at the start of the GTE session, hitting the tire piles at the top of the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge, without however causing a flag. red.

The 6 Hours of Spa will begin tomorrow Saturday at 13:30 p.m., with difficult weather conditions expected in the Ardennes.
