Toyota achieves the double in qualifying at Monza, with José Maria Lopez still sparkling this Saturday on the track.

Toyota and Porsche on pole at Monza

Untouchable Pechito. Best time of the three free practice sessions held so far, José Maria Lopez took pole position for the 6 Hours of Monza, third round of the WEC 2021.

The pilot of the Toyota GR010 n°7, associated with Mike conway et Kamui Kobayashi, had quickly taken the lead in the qualifying session reserved for Hypercar and LM P2, drawing a time of 1'35″899, sufficient to get ahead Brendon Hartley (Toyota n°8) of 62 thousandths.

The GR010 duo had thus got their hands on the session, before the red flag was displayed following the exit of Stoffel Vandoorne (Oreca 07 n°28 – Jota) at the exit of the first Lesmo and less than three minutes from the checkerboard. The Belgian escaped the incident unscathed.

 

 

At the restart, no one will be able to get the time of the Argentinian, sovereign since the start of free practice and who therefore confirms with this pole, the second for the n°7 after that of Spa.

Toyota Gazoo Racing signs the double with the n°8 of Buemi – Hartley – Nakajima, the two Japanese Hypercars ahead of theAlpine A480 n°36 of Nicolas lapierre, associated with Matthieu Vaxivière and Andre Negro.

Followed by the two Glickenhaus n°708 of Derani – Pla – Menezes and n°709 of Dumas – Mailleux – Westbrook, 0″7 and 2″4 from pole.

Team WRT, with Charles Milesi, won its very first pole in LM P2, with a lap from the Frenchman in 1'38"527 to lift the Belgian No. 07 Oreca 31 to the top of the class, 30 thousandths ahead of Filipe Albuquerque ( Oreca 07 n°22 – United Autosports). The top 3 in the category is completed by Ben Hanley (Oreca 07 n°21 – DragonSpeed).

In GTE Pro, the Porsche 911 RSR n°92 of Kévin Estre and Neel Jani takes a third consecutive pole after Belgium and Portugal, with a time established in 1’45″412 ahead of Alessandro Pier Guidi – James Calado (Ferrari 48 GTE Evo n°51 – AF Corse) and the second official Porsche 911 of Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz.

TF Sport, for its part, signs its second pole position in GTE Am with the reference time in the category in 1'47″272 for theAston Martin Vantage GTE n°33 of Felipe Fraga, Ben Keating and Dylan Pereira.

The 6 Hours of Monza will start tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
