Toyota presents its GR Super Sport concept

Toyota has finally lifted the veil on its concept GR Super Sport at the Tokyo show. The Japanese firm, which confirmed his commitment to the WEC for the 2018-2019 Super-Season, has thus brought to light a car which incorporates many of the elements present on its TS50 Hybrid LM P1 and validates the transfer of technology from the track to the road.

The GR Super Sport is thus powered by the 6-liter twin-turbo V2,4 block, coupled with the in-house hybrid system, which thus develops a cumulative power of 1000 hp.

“Rather than moving from production cars to sports cars, we seek to integrate the know-how developed by racing and rallying into production cars, and this contributes to Toyota Gazoo Racing’s efforts to produce better cars , comments Shigeki Tomoyama, President of Gazoo Racing Company.

This is the starting point for Toyota's newest challenge of developing sports cars from current racing cars. Although it will be a while before you get the chance to get behind the wheel, I hope the GR Super Sport concept gives you a taste of what we want to achieve with our premium sports cars. next generation. »

This concept could potentially serve as the basis for a future hypercar from the brand. Let us also remember that the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, organizer of 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World ChampionshipEndurance FIA WEC, evaluates the possibility of returning to prototypes visually close to the very high performance cars developed by manufacturers.
