Toyota wants to turn the page on Le Mans

The arrival of 24 Hours of Le Mans is still on everyone's minds. While Toyota No. 5 by Davidson-Buemi-Nakajima was on the verge of winning, a technical fault on a connector of the air line between the turbo and the exchanger caused the Japanese manufacturer to lose the victory.

The 6 Hours of Nürburgring (Germany) contested this weekend will allow the Japanese brand to refocus on the Championship. The Asian team will put in place its high downforce package after competing at the start of the season with the low downforce package in preparation for the Le Mans event.

“We want to put the disappointment of Le Mans behind us, says Tashio Sato, the president of the team. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the spectators, opponents and friends who have sent messages of support in recent weeks. We will not forget it. »

“As a team we want to race again and we will do it with even more motivation and team spirit. The Nürburgring race is a great opportunity for us”, added the Japanese.

“After getting over the cruel disappointment of Le Mans, I want more than ever to get back behind the wheel of the TS050 Hybrid, explains Anthony Davidson. I'm really enjoying the Nürburgring and I hope the car will be as competitive as in the last two races. It would be a real motivation for the team to achieve victory at home (the team offices being in Cologne). »

Returned from Le Mans with his title won in Formula e, Sébastien Buemi also approaches this ordeal with optimism. “It’s a good thing to get back behind the wheel straight after Le Mans. We should still be fighting for victory. We must take the positives from this first part of the season. We led two of the last three races at the end of the event and that makes me confident for the Nürburgring.”, adds the Swiss.

Toyota only occupies third position in the Manufacturers' standings following the retirement of the No. 5 at Le Mans. The first crew of the team, that of the n°6 composed of Kobayashi-Conway-Sarrazin, also occupies third place in the Drivers' Championship, 40 points behind leaders Lieb-Jani-Dumas who won in Sarthe.
