United Autosports leads the Prologue

United Autosports dominated the first session of the WEC Prologue at Spa, a morning marked by Ben Keating's exit from the track at the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge.

United Autosports leads the Prologue

The kick-off of the World ChampionshipEndurance WEC 2021 was given this Monday morning with the traditional Prologue, contested this year on the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

The opportunity to see the famous Toyota GR10 meeting the Hypercar regulations, two cars yet discreet on the track with 15 laps and the 8th time in 2'06″896 for the n°8 of Brendon Hartley - Sébastien Buemi - Kazuki Nakajima, but on the other hand no time recorded and only two laps for the No. 7 of José Maria Lopez – Mike conway - Kamui Kobayashi.

Remember that Toyota remains in the learning phase with its new car, which this year faces theAlpine A480, the latter having achieved the 13th time with the trio Matthieu Vaxivière – Nicolas lapierre - Andre Negro.

The best time of the morning is to be found in the LM P2 category, with the #07 Oreca 22 – United Autosports of Phil Hanson – Filipe Albuquerque – Fabio Scherer, session benchmarks in 2'04″968, more than five tenths ahead of the #07 Oreca 29 – Racing Team Nederland of Giedo van der Garde – Job van Uitert – Frits van Eerd.

In GTE Pro, Porsche dominated the debates with the #911 92 RSR of Kévin Estre and Neel Jani, best time in 2'14"198, less than two tenths ahead of the Ferrari 488 GTE n°51 – AF Corse by James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi.

The #488 Ferrari 49 GTE – Cetilar Racing of Roberto Lacorte – Giorgio Sernagiotto – Antonio Fuoco sets the third fastest time in GTE, while dominating the Am category.

The morning session was interrupted for several minutes after Ben Keating went off the track (Aston Martin Vantage GTE n°33 – TF Sport) at the top of the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge, before it was the Vantage n°777 – D'station Racing of Fujii – Hoshino – Watson which caused a second interruption.

The TF Sport team, which supports D'station, has confirmed that Ben Keating and Satoshi Hoshino are well, following a check-up at the circuit's medical center.

 

 

Driving should resume at 13:30 p.m.
