Vincent Vosse: “Repeating such a season in 2022 will not be easy”

No less than nine titles fell into the hands of Team WRT in 2021. From GT3 to final success in WEC passing through the one in ELMS and 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LM P2 category, Vincent Vosse's men took away almost everything in their path. Almost, because only the Drivers Ranking of theEndurance Cup in GT World Challenge Europe escaped the Belgian team with a third place. “It is difficult to find words that can express how I feel, 2021 has been by far the most successful season in the history of Team WRT, declares Vincent Vosse, the team's Team Principal. There is, of course, a feeling of pride when I look at what we have managed to achieve with our GT3 and LM P2 programs. We're not new to success in GT, but given the level of competition, our results were exceptional, and it's impressive to see the consistency we've shown over the years. What we did in LM P2 was incredible, given that we were new to the category and had everything to learn. In January, when we hurriedly pressed the “go” button without even being sure we had a car for the season, no one could have believed that a few months later we would be where we are. »

In Bahrain, after the coronation of the trio Robin Frijns, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi, the native of Verviers told us how the start of the prototype adventure went: “We had almost decided to buy a car, and on January 13, 2021 to be precise, on the plane returning from the 24 Hours of Dubai, knowing that the closing date for WEC entries was January 14, we said “we does the WEC! », thinking that we would find solutions along the way, which we have never done in the history of the team. When I got off the plane, I called Oreca who told me they did not have a car available, then I called the WEC, confirming my commitment for the season despite everything. I was chatting with Robert (Kubica, who had driven for WRT in DTM. Editor's note), but it was decided too late to integrate it into the equation, but he said to me: “What if we made a car for the ELMS? » (Laughs) Fortunately, Sebring did not take place (in March 2020, which pushed back the start of the WEC season at Spa, at the beginning of May. Editor's note), otherwise I don't know how I would have done it. (Laughs) Here again, luckily, I have an incredible team, almost all young people, who knew very quickly what the plan of attack was. »

A season also marked by the last lap of the 24 Hours of Le Mans where the team went through all the emotions, from the abandonment of the trio Yifei Ye, Louis Delétraz, Robert Kubica to the victory of Frijns, Habsburg and Milesi. “This season has given us a lot of emotions, of all kinds and intensity. The thrilling final laps of the 24 Hours of Spa and Le Mans are here to remind us just how fine the line is between joy and disappointment and that the two can in fact come together at the same time. In 2021 we set the bar quite high, repeating such a season in 2022 will not be easy, and that requires remaining humble, focused and motivated. »
