Here is the new Porsche 911 RSR

Porsche presented its new 911 RSR which will be entered in the 2019-2020 season of WEC and on the next season ofIMSA (available for the 2020-2021 season to customers). If the new Stuttgart mount retains a 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, its position has been optimized by being just in front of the rear axle. Its displacement of 4,194cc is capable of developing 515hp. The 6-speed sequential gearbox has been reworked for faster shifts.

Porsche engineers placed particular emphasis on the behavior of the chassis. In addition to the weight distribution, the downforce has been revised with two exhaust outlets located just in front of the rear wheels. The diffuser has more space. These improvements should improve tire preservation during racing.

Following feedback from drivers, the cockpit was also redesigned, as were the active and passive protections, including a detector to signal approaching cars.

Porsche has also confirmed its crews with Michael Christensen and Kévin Estre, as well as Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz who will share the wheel of the two examples entered for the next WEC season. The two models will have different liveries.

“Since 2017, the 911 RSR has achieved more than 20 world championship class victories, as well as endurance races in North America and Europe. Our job was to make this car even better. The Weissach engineers have succeeded perfectly in implementing this in every detail,” noted Fritz Enzinger, the vice-president of Porsche Motorsport who celebrated the GTE Pro title with Christensen-Estre.

“We have made significant developments on our car for the next three years of homologation, added Pascal Zurlinden, director of the GT Motorsport part. We looked at complex areas such as longevity, resistance, behavior or maintenance. 95% of the car is new. The only unchanged elements are the lights, the brake system, the clutch, the driver's seat and certain suspension elements. The tests have gone very well so far. »

The new Porsche 911 RSR will be visible at the WEC tests organized in Barcelona (Spain) on July 23 and 24.
